Pakistan are on the brink of elimination, having lost to England and with their match against New Zealand getting washed out. They still have just one point from two matches, while England have already qualified for the semi-finals with two wins out of two matches, and New Zealand are ahead of the Men in Green with three points from two matches.

New Zealand will qualify for the semi-finals if they beat England today in Colombo, and only a defeat for the Black Caps will keep Pakistan alive in the tournament.

Colombo weather forecast

New Zealand will also qualify if there’s a washout in Colombo, but the chances of that happening are almost zero. The probability of precipitation in Colombo for Friday is just 3%. The chances of rain around the match time (7 PM start) is 0%.

Clear skies are expected during the ENG vs NZ match, while the temperatures will be around 28-27 degrees Celsius. So, expect a hot and humid day in Colombo. This could lead to some dew but so far it hasn’t been a big factor in matches in Sri Lanka.

R Premadasa Stadium pitch report

The England vs New Zealand match will be played on the same pitch on which the Black Caps defeated Sri Lanka by 61 runs. In that game, New Zealand made 168/7 while Sri Lanka were restricted to 107/8.

Mitchell Santner and Cole McConchie together returned match figures of 84/6 against Sri Lanka, and they are set to trouble England as well.

Expect the tired pitch to offer spin, some seam and uneven bounce, which is not great news for Pakistan.
