Veteran India batter Cheteshwar Pujara , one of India’s finest Test specialists of the modern era, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 37-year-old confirmed the news on social media on Sunday, August 24, bringing an end to a glorious career that spanned more than a decade at the highest level.
“Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field - it’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” Pujara wrote in an emotional statement.
Pujara shares heartfelt message after retirement
In his heartfelt note, Pujara thanked the BCCI, Saurashtra Cricket Association, teammates, mentors, and fans for their unwavering support. He also paid tribute to his family for their sacrifices and backing throughout his career.
“The game has taken me to places across the globe – and the passionate support and energy of the fans has always been a constant. I have been humbled by the wishes and motivation wherever I have played and will always remain grateful,” he wrote.

Pujara represented India in 103 Tests, scoring 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 fifties. He was known for his marathon batting efforts and often steadied India in challenging overseas conditions. Pujara anchored some of India’s most memorable Test wins, including the historic series triumphs in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
