Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have roped in “Baby AB” Dewald Brevis for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 , the BCCI confirmed on Friday. Brevis has been added to the CSK squad as a replacement for pacer Gurjapneet Singh.
Signing an overseas replacement for an Indian pacer was made possible by CSK having one overseas slot left in their roster.
Who is CSK new signing Dewald Brevis?
Brevis has played 81 T20s and scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162. He made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played 2 T20Is so far.
Brevis has also played 10 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians in the 2022 and 2024 seasons, scoring 230 at a strike rate of 134.
Brevis, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, joins CSK for Rs 2.2 crore.
The 21-year-old from Johannesburg has been likened to South African great AB de Villiers due to a similar batting style and he first made a name for himself after scoring 506 runs in the U-19 World Cup held in 2021.
Brevis is the second replacement player for CSK in IPL 2025. A few days back, they signed Mumbai youngster Ayush Mhatre as a replacement for their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Chennai, who are now being captained by MS Dhoni, are currently struggling for form. They are last in the points table with five defeats in seven matches.
