India win Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit, Kohli play 'stump dandiya' amid joyous scenes in Dubai; see video

India had not won an ICC event for more than a decade after winning the 2013 Champions Trophy with a victory over hosts England in the final in Birmingham. After finally ending the jinx with a triumph in the T20 World Cup in June last year, the Men in Blue collected a second ICC trophy in as many years on Sunday after defeating New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy in Dubai.

The cricket-mad nation that India is, Rohit Sharma and Co's four-wicket victory over the Black Caps resulted in the country witnessing Diwali-like-celebrations for the second time in a space of two-weeks, long after the actual festival.

The entire nation went into party mode and celebrations lasted until the wee hours of Monday, perhaps even all night in some cases, as India became the most successful team in Champions Trophy history.

The Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which was sold out for the big-ticket clash along expected lines, also exploded with joy after Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning boundary off Will O’Rourke in the final delivery of the penultimate over.

Pacers Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh were the first to charge to the centre after Jadeja pulled a short delivery from O’Rourke behind square to seal India’s triumph, and were soon joined by other teammates.

It was celebrations galore for the Indians from thereon with ecstatic scenes on the ground and in the dressing room after the winning shot and the sight of players embracing their partners and other family members.

Jadeja, Arshdeep and Rana also showcased their dancing skills with a little throwback to the 2013 Champions Trophy final, in which Virat Kohli had done a ‘Gangnam Style’ jig in front of the trophy.

The most memorable of those celebrations, however, was the one between Kohli and Rohit as the two shared yet another moment of bromance by engaging in a little ‘stump dandiya’ following the victory.

Last, but not the least, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar is known to be quite an energetic character when it comes to victory celebrations despite being advanced in years.

The ‘Little Master’ had been jumping with joy when Kohli took India home in their 2022 T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Melbourne, and had a similar child-like reaction on Sunday.

With their victory on Sunday, India are now the most successful team in Champions Trophy history, having previously shared the trophy with hosts Sri Lanka in 2002 under Sourav Ganguly’s leadership before defeating England in the final 11 years later during MS Dhoni’s reign.
