Indian batting star Virat Kohli achieved another milestone in what has been a legendary career so far as he became only the third batter in the history of One-Day Internationals to score 14,000 or more career runs. Kohli achieved the milestone with a delightful cover drive – his signature shot during Sunday’s blockbuster Champions Trophy Group A match between India and Pakistan in Dubai.
That wasn’t the only feather that Kohli added to his cap on Sunday evening though as he ended up breaking another of Sachin Tendulkar’s records by becoming the fastest batter to 14,000 ODI runs. While Indian batting legend Tendulkar had achieved the feat in 350 innings, Kohli went past the milestone in just 287.

Kohli had also broken Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries during the 2023 ICC World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The ‘Master Blaster’ was in attendance at the iconic venue as Kohli went past his tally of ODI centuries to become the first batter to complete a half-century of tons in the format.
Tendulkar, however, remains the leading run-scorer in Tests as well as ODIs – having signed off with 18,426 runs from 463 appearances for India in the 50-over game.
Coming to Sunday’s Indo-Pak clash, Kohli helped India quickly recover from skipper Rohit Sharma's dismissal in the fifth over by forging a solid second-wicket alliance with opener Shubman Gill that was worth 68 off 72 balls as India reached 99/1 after 17 overs.
The Men in Blue had earlier bowled Pakistan out for 241 after skipper Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bat. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav led the way with a haul of 3/40 that included two wickets in as many deliveries . As for the hosts and defending champions, Saud Shakeel (62) and Rizwan (46) were the key performers.
