Mumbai Indians (MI) are still searching for their first win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. However, on Monday, they will have to continue their pursuit without star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. While there is no official update on his availability, the 31-year-old fast bowler is far from full-match fitness.

The good news, however, is that Bumrah has started bowling in the nets. He is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, recovering from a back injury that has kept him out of action since early January.

Bumrah suffered the injury during the fifth and final Tests against Australia in Sydney.

Bumrah is certain to miss MI’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday (31 March) and is only expected to join the squad in early April if things go as per plans. After KKR, Mumbai face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on 4 April and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on 7 April.

Bumrah set to miss more matches for Mumbai Indians

Considering the slow pace of recovery, it seems highly unlikely that Bumrah will be available for the LSG match.

Recently former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond, who was also with Mumbai Indians, warned BCCI against overusing Bumrah in the upcoming five-match Test series in England after the IPL 2025.

“He had the [2023] surgery, but he played all that [Australia] Test series, performed unbelievably. At the end of the day, he just bowled too much over a one-month period. And it hasn’t cracked, he hasn’t got a fracture, he is on the borderline of a fracture,” Bond told ESPNCricinfo.
