BCCI to discuss safety guidelines after stampede

Now, the BCCI has decided to formulate norms for IPL victory celebrations in their latest Apex Council Meeting.

“The need for formulation of norms for IPL victory celebration will be discussed during the meeting,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.

Earlier, the BCCI had admitted that the celebrations could have been organised in a better way. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had said that proper safety measures should have been taken by the organisers, considering the magnitude of the celebrations after RCB’s IPL 2025 win.

What happened at RCB’s victory celebrations?

The RCB team announced a victory parade in Bengaluru after winning their maiden IPL title. They even offered free tickets to fans to come and celebrate the win with their heroes at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the Bengaluru traffic police canceled the open-bus parade due to safety concerns but allowed other celebrations to take place.

Fans stormed the roads in Bengaluru after the RCB team arrived on 4 June for the celebrations. The RCB team was greeted by tens of thousands of fans at the airport and on their way to the hotel. The Karnataka government felicitated the entire squad at the Vidhana Soudha, from where they went straight to the Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, even before the team could reach the stadium, the stampede occurred.

Despite the tragedy, the RCB team continued the celebrations, garnering a lot of criticism. When the pressure mounted, the Karnataka government was forced to take action, which resulted in the suspension of several top officials and the arrest of RCB’s marketing head, Nokhil Sosale. This latest development from the BCCI comes while the investigation is still underway.
