The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to part ways with fantasy gaming platform Dream11 after the government passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed to ANI that the board has decided to end the relationship and said they will not tie up with such companies in the future. This means India’s cricket team will soon have a new title sponsor.
“BCCI and Dream 11 are discontinuing their relationship after the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, was passed. BCCI will ensure not to indulge with any such organisations ahead in future,” Saikia was quoted as saying.
Toyota in race to replace Dream11?
According to NDTV, a couple of companies have already shown interest. Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corporation and a fintech start-up are said to be exploring the opportunity, but the official tender process is yet to begin.
Dream11 had signed a three-year deal in July 2023 worth Rs 358 crore to become the main sponsor of the Indian cricket team, replacing edtech company Byju’s. The company is also connected to BCCI’s biggest cash cow, the Indian Premier League (IPL) through deals with various franchises.
For now, the BCCI will be racing against time to confirm a new sponsor before the Indian team takes the field in the Asia Cup. Reports also suggest that the Indian team could play the Asia Cup without a lead sponsor if the BCCI fails to find a replacement in time.
