Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is pushing hard in its attempt to move its T20 World Cup matches to Sri Lanka and reportedly they have sent another letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) further explaining the specific security concerns about travelling to India.
According to a report in news agency PTI, ICC wanted to know the details regarding the security concerns from the Bangladesh board and BCB has provided the governing body this information in the latest letter.
The tiff between BCB and the Indian board has continued since BCCI's diktat to release Mustafizur Rahman, the only Bangladeshi player bought in the auction, from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
BCB solid in its stance
BCB continues to be determined in its demand to not play the T20 World Cup in India. While ICC is yet to make an official announcement, report suggest that Bangladesh has been told to either play in India or forfeit the tournament.
This has not gone down well with the cricket board in Bangladesh and the sports ministry who are both still adamant in their demand to not go to their neighbouring country for the World Cup.
“Following discussions with sports ministry advisor Asif Nazrul, the BCB has once again sent a communication to the ICC. The ICC wanted to know areas of concern with regards to security and BCB has cited them,” a source close to the cricket board told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
‘ICC not understanding Bangladesh concerns’
ICC had replied to BCB’s demand of shifting their matches and it seems the response was not on expected lines for Bangladesh.
“Today, after reading the letter from the ICC, we understand that the ICC doesn’t fully realise the scale of the security issue regarding Bangladeshi cricketers in India,” Bangladesh’s sports advisor had Nazrul said on Wednesday.

We are looking at it as a security issue, where the BCCI itself is telling the Kolkata team that this player can’t be given security, leave him out from your team. This in itself is a tacit recognition that it isn’t very safe to play in India,” he added.
In light of ICC’s response, BCB has sent another communication hoping to convince the global body to accept their demand.
Bangladesh are in Group C for the upcoming T20 World Cup alongside former champions England and West Indies, debutants Italy and a lower-ranked Nepal. Bangladesh play three of their group games in Kolkata and one, against Italy, in Mumbai.
