Pakistan legend Zaheer Abbas feels Babar Azam’s attitude is becoming a stumbling block in his return to form. Babar has been struggling for form for quite some time now, losing his Pakistan captaincy, also at times, the spot in the national team.
The downfall has continued in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he has registered scores of 0 and 1 so far against Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United, respectively.
Zaheer slams Babar for not seeking support
Zaheer Abbas feels Babar needs a helping hand and advice from a veteran batter could help him. However, the 77-year-old legend said that either Babar is too shy or egoistic, as he has not yet approached a former batter to sort out his issues.
Zaheer cited the example of Pakistan’s great Younis Khan, who took advice from former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin during his poor form. Khan bounced back with a solid score of 218 in the fourth Test against England at the Kennington Oval in 2016.
Abbas also spoke about the time when Azharuddin sought his guidance early in his career and when Saeed Anwar relied on help from batting great Sunil Gavaskar to improve his game.
“I think either Babar has an ego issue or is too shy to seek advice from his seniors in overcoming his current situation. I think in 2016 Younis Khan spoke to Muhammad Azharuddin and went on to score a double hundred in England,” Zaheer said, as quoted by PTI.
“I also recall how Azharuddin had sought guidance from me on India’s tour to Pakistan in 1989-90. He was struggling to find runs and I told him to change his batting grip. Saeed Anwar sought Sunil Gavaskar’s advice,” Zaheer added.
Babar would be back in action on Saturday when his Peshawar Zalmi take on Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans on Saturday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. His fans will be hoping for a quick turnaround for the former Pakistan captain.
