Former Australia star mocks Mohammad Rizwan's English, gets called out on social media: 'Hi Brad, now speak Urdu'

Former Australia World Cup-winner Brad Hogg has landed in hot water after a video of him mocking Pakistan’s ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan’s English-speaking skills went viral. The 54-year-old, now a well-known pundit and broadcaster, has been slammed for his involvement in a mock interview that appeared to ridicule Rizwan’s fluency in English.

The video, circulating on social media, features an individual imitating Rizwan, seemingly copying his accent and speaking style. Hogg’s participation in the clip has sparked backlash, with fans calling out the former cricketer for what they perceive as an unnecessary insult.

One fan hit back, saying, “Hi Brad, now speak Urdu.” Another user pointed out, “Rizwan is good at what he is supposed to be good at, wicketkeeping and batting. It is improper to insult him this way.”

Defending the Pakistan skipper, a social media user wrote, “English is Rizwan’s third language. How many languages can Hogg speak? I could stoop to the Aussies’ sandpaper level, but I have dignity.”

Mohammad Rizwan has often been the subject of online trolling, especially after Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group stage. His English-speaking skills have frequently been mocked despite the fact that it is not his first language. However, Rizwan also invites others to insult him by choosing to speak in English despite having the option to communicate in his native language and using a translator.

Rizwan has also failed to perform with the bat and as captain in recent times, resulting in people mocking him. Under his leadership, Pakistan were eliminated from the Champions Trophy after suffering back-to-back losses in the first round. This was Pakistan’s first ICC event in 29 years. Following the debacle, Rizwan was sacked as Pakistan’s T20 captain, a decision typical of the PCB, despite the Champions Trophy being a 50-over tournament.

Agha Salman has been named the new captain, but the results remain unchanged, as Pakistan have already lost two T20Is under his leadership against New Zealand’s second-string team.
