Some members of the Indian cricket team recently went through fitness tests at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. However, one key drill was reportedly missing from the regime - the Bronco test. The Bronco test recommended by the new Strength and Conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux was not included in the session.
Bronco test could happen in Dubai
According to the Times of India, the players only did regular health check-ups, mobility exercises, agility drills, and the Yo-Yo test. The report stated that the Bronco test could still happen for players part of the Asia Cup 2025 squad once the team reaches Dubai. India will have their first training session at the ICC Academy on September 5, and that is when the management might include it.
“It could happen when the squad assembles in Dubai for the Asia Cup. The team will start leaving late tonight (early morning of September 4) and have their first session at ICC Academy on September 5. So if the management and the S&C want to do a Bronco assessment, it could happen in Dubai. If at all it happens,” the report quoted a source as saying.
While the Bronco test is not a direct selection criteria, all centrally contracted players and those who are on the target list for selection are expected to prove their fitness before any major tournament. Recently, players like Rohit Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Shreyas Iyer underwent fitness assessment tests at the BCCI’s academy.
The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 28 in the UAE. The BCCI announced the squad for the ACC event last month. Suryakumar Yadav has been named the captain, while Shubman Gill has been appointed his deputy. India are slated to play their opening game against the hosts UAE on September 10.
