In a thrilling start to the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash, Hardik Pandya struck early to dismiss Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman for 15 off just 9 balls. The wicket came in the third over after a tight battle between bat and ball, with Sanju Samson taking a low, sharp catch behind the stumps.

Fakhar initially hit a boundary in the over, but Hardik had the last laugh as he provided the first breakthrough to India. Earlier, Fakhar had started aggressively, scoring two boundaries in the first few overs off Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik. He looked in form before being dismissed.

Fakhar Zaman’s dismissal creates a stir

The dismissal has sparked a strong reaction among Pakistan fans, with many calling it “cheating” and questioning the umpiring because the ball went very low before Samson had it in his gloves. The third umpire said the fingers were beneath the ball. Former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis also expressed his objection to the dismissal, saying, “I’m not sure if that was a catch. Fakhar looked shocked and rightly so.”

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram said that when there is no conclusive evidence with third umpire, the benifit of doubt should go to the batter.

First time that no appeal by bowler or wicket keeper and a ball hitting the ground means out. If we are changing the rules for India, let’s keep the same rules for Pakistan. #PAKvIND

Is that how India wanted to win against Pakistan by using the umpires? You know what they say: once a cheater, always a cheater. #PAKvIND #AsiaCup pic.twitter.com/YyUxekXvIz

The wicket of Fakhar Zaman was a big boost for India. With India now on top early in the match, Hardik’s strike has put Pakistan on the back foot. Saim Ayub has joined Sahibzada Farhan in the middle. However, Indian fielders have dropped crucial catches so far and are not looking at their best tonight.
