Arshdeep Singh slammed for hitting Daryl Mitchell with ball in follow-through: 'Poor behaviour'

Things got heated between India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell during the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 between the two teams taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.

Chasing a mind-boggling 256, New Zealand were struggling at 102-5 in the 11th over when the incident took place. India had earlier, despite losing the toss, slammed the highest ever T20 World Cup final score of 255-5 in 20 overs.

Arshdeep-Mitchell incident

New Zealand were already looking done and dusted when Arshdeep was handed the ball for his second over of the night. Mitchell launched the left-arm pacer for a couple of sixes early in the over to bring up the 100 for the Kiwis. On the fifth delivery, Mitchell walked across his stumps as Arshdeep sent a wide yorker. Mitchell played the ball back to the bowler and in doing so also walked a little out of his crease.

Arshdeep, in his follow-through after delivering the ball, bizarrely threw it on to Daryl Mitchell’s body. The Kiwi batter got enraged and furiously sent back a volley of words towards the bowler who just showed him the back and walked away to carry on for the next delivery.

Soon India captain Suryakumar Yadav walked up to Mitchell and had a small chat with him while the umpire talked to Arshdeep. The bowler and the batter then walked up to each other and shook hands after the over.

Fans, though, did not like Arshdeep’s unprovoked aggression.
