Rahul Dravid’s younger son Anvay has been selected for the BCCI Under-19 Challenger Trophy, following in his father’s footsteps just like his elder brother Samit did. Anvay recently impressed in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for Karnataka and will aim to do the same in the Challenger Trophy ahead of next year’s U-19 World Cup.

Rahul Dravid’s younger son, Anvay Dravid, is also following in his father’s footsteps as he has been selected in Team C for the BCCI Under-19 Challenger Trophy, which will be played in Hyderabad from November 5 to 11. Anvay is not the only one in the family who is trying to emulate the Indian great’s journey, as Dravid’s elder son Samit, also played U-19 cricket last year.

Samit Dravid was part of India’s Under-19 squad for the multi-format home series against Australia Under-19 in September 2024. He had also played his first senior men’s T20 tournament, the Maharaja T20 Trophy in Karnataka, for the Mysuru Warriors team the same year. He was also part of the Karnataka squad that won the Cooch Behar Trophy last year.

Anvay, on the other hand, is all set to begin his Under-19 journey with the Challenger Trophy, which will feature four teams. The Challenger Trophy is an important event as the BCCI uses it to identify players for the next ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup. The 2026 edition of the tournament will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia. If Anvay performs well in the Challenger Trophy, he may get picked for the World Cup.

Anvay gets picked thanks to impressive Vinoo Mankad Trophy

Anvay recently played in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, the BCCI’s premier national-level Under-19 One-day cricket tournament. Anvay led Karnataka to the quarterfinals of the event before being knocked out by Hyderabad. He scored 220 runs in six matches, including an unbeaten 82 and another half-century (63).

Karnataka won four of their five group matches and finished second in their group before losing to Hyderabad, who went on to become the champions. Anvay’s best innings came against Himachal Pradesh, where he scored 82 not out off 93 balls with six fours and two sixes, helping Karnataka chase down 236 runs.

In Team C, Anvay has been picked as a wicketkeeper-batter, alongside Yuvraj Gohil from Saurashtra, who is also a wicketkeeper. Aaron George, who guided Hyderabad to an unbeaten Vinoo Mankad Trophy campaign, will lead Team C. Team A will be led by Vihaan Malhotra from Punjab. Vedant Trivedi will captain Team B, while Team D will be captained by Chandrahas Dash.
