For ages, Team India has remained elusive of a worthy contender who can chip in handy runs and emerge as the bona fide nightwatchman for the team. However, the fifth Test against England has seemingly ended the long search. On a testing track at the Oval, the pacer has contributed crucial runs and showcased his mettle with the bat. The innings will surely put him above in the pecking order, and hence, fans may see more of Akash Deep’s blitz with the bat in the coming future.

On the back of a blazing partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep, India have garnered a flawless start on Day 3 of the Oval Test. The pair resumed the innings at 75/2 and together added over 100 runs to the scoreboard to put India in the driver’s seat. England finally had something to celebrate, as just before lunch, Jamie Overton took the wicket of Akash Deep. Deep departed after a phenomenal knock of 66. India ended the first session at 189/3 after 44 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal is unbeaten at 85*, and will be looking to register his second century of the tour. Jaiswal has been joined by captain Shubman Gill in the middle. He has quickly moved to 11* after just 8 deliveries. India’s lead has reached 166 runs, and are set to post a big target in front of the hosts.
