What is Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra that PM Modi is launching from Birsa Munda's birthplace?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Jharkhand to launch a series of major government schemes on 15 November. First on the Prime Minister's agenda is a visit to the Freedom Fighter Museum at Birsa Munda Memorial Park in Ranchi. He will also pay a floral tribute at the statue of the tribal icon Ulihatu village in Khunti, where he was born. Notably, Modi will be the first prime minister to visit Ulihatu, according to the press release. PM Modi will also launch “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra” during a programme marking the celebration of third Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2023. Here’s all we know about the yatra. A scheme for tribals across the country According to the release, Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra focuses on “reaching out to people and create awareness and providing benefits of welfare schemes like sanitation facilities, essential financial services, electricity connections, access to LPG cylinders, housing for the poor, food security, proper nutrition, reliable healthcare, clean drinking water, etc.” Enrolment of potential beneficiaries will also be done through details ascertained during the yatra. PM Modi will flag off 118 IEC (Information, Education and Communication) vans in Khunti, marking the launch of the yatra. It will start from districts with significant tribal population initially and by 25 January 2024, will cover all districts across the country. Chief Ministers, Union and state ministers and Governors will be present at various locations during the yatra. In poll-bound states, the yatra will begin after conclusion of the model code of conduct. More than 3,000 vans will cover the nation’s 15,000 urban areas and 2.5 lakh gram panchayats. For two hours, each van would remain in a gram panchayat with the aim of reaching out to potential beneficiaries who have not been included in government projects and making sure they are covered by them. 393 tribal blocks in 69 districts in 21 states/UTs and 9,000 gram panchayats will be covered until 22 November. Subsequently, the yatra would spread to neighbouring cities and country. Other schemes to be launched In a first-of-its-kind mission, the Prime Minister will launch Pradhan Mantri Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups Mission (PM-PVTG) – a scheme meant for the overall development of around 28 lakh people across 18 states and union territories in 22,544 villages (220 districts), the press release stated. The PM-PVTG Mission is intended to provide vital services, such as power, water, road connectivity, housing, healthcare, and education, to the 75 PVTG people residing in isolated villages. “These tribes stay in scattered, remote and inaccessible habitations, often in forest areas and hence a mission with budget of about Rs 24,000 crore, is planned to saturate PVTG families and habitations with basic facilities such as road and telecom connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition and sustainable livelihood opportunities,” the release said. According to government officials, nine Ministries would coordinate to bring around 11 interventions, including the PM-Gram Awaas Yojana, PM-Gram Sadak Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and others, to these target communities, as per News18. The PM will also transfer the 15th instalment amount of about Rs 18,000 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) to more than 8 crore beneficiaries. The Indian premier will also inaugurate, dedicate to nation and lay the foundation stone of projects worth around Rs. 7200 crores in multiple sectors like rail, road, Education, Coal, Petroleum and Natural Gas.
