Here is all that is set to take place today.

US Supreme Court to hear Trump tariff case

The Supreme Court is set to hear pleas from a group of small businesses and several states against the Trump administration’s trade policy. The opposition claims that most of the tariffs are illegal and is pushing for the court to strike them down.

If the court agrees to the pleas, it can destroy the global tariffs he first announced in April. It also means that the government would likely have to refund some of the billions of dollars it has collected through the tariffs, which are taxes on imports.

On Sunday (November 2), the president said he will not attend the hearing in person as he did not want to cause a distraction, reported news website BBC. “I wanted to go so badly… I just don’t want to do anything to deflect the importance of that decision,” he said. “It’s not about me, it’s about our country.”

PM Modi to felicitate Indian Women’s cricket team

PM Narendra Modi will felicitate the triumphant Indian team in New Delhi on Wednesday. The ceremony will be held at the Prime Minister’s official residence to celebrate the team’s remarkable campaign under captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

The players flew to the capital on Tuesday (November 4) after receiving an invitation from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) late on Monday night (November 3). According to reports, the interaction will mirror the felicitation hosted for Rohit Sharma’s T20 World Cup-winning side in July 2024.

Despite the nationwide euphoria, the BCCI decided against holding a public victory parade. Officials attributed the unpopular decision to difficulties with logistics and safety.

Nato chief Mark Rutte to visit Romania

Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte will be visiting Bucharest during his official visit to Romania. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet Romanian  President Nicușor Dan, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, and other high-ranking officials.

Rutte will also participate in the Nato-Industry Forum, where he will deliver a speech on the importance of increasing defence production and strengthening ties with the industry. He is also scheduled to engage with students at the University of Bucharest.

Opening of Shein store in Paris

Chinese online fashion platform Shein will open its first permanent store in Paris today. It will be opening in the department store BHV while five more in Galeries Lafayette stores have been planned in regional cities later this month.

There has been a serious pushback from French lawmakers over the opening of the store in the French capital. This comes as French politicians, retailers and regulators continue to oppose Shein’s expansion in a bid to protect high street retailers.
