Is Vivek Ramaswamy offering over Rs 80 lakh to hire a nanny?

Republican presidential aspirant Vivek Ramaswamy is reportedly seeking a nanny for his kids. The 38-year-old American billionaire, who has seen his popularity surge in the last few weeks, is ready to shell out an annual salary of $100,000 (Rs 83 lakh approximately) to hire a nanny, according to a report in Business Insider. Ramaswamy, who is now the second-preferred Republican candidate after Donald Trump, has remained in the news cycle since the first GOP presidential debate in Wisconsin. Searching for nanny According to Business Insider, the job listing on EstateJobs.com – a website that caters to wealthy people looking for butlers, chauffeurs, private chefs and other household staff – mentioned that the nanny will be required to work for 84 to 96 hours of work a week. Describing the family’s lifestyle as one of “curiosity, adventure, and constant motion”, the job ad read: “This is an exceptional opportunity to join a high-profile family, contributing to the growth and development of their children while participating in unique family adventures.” The nanny will be a part of a team of other household staff to give “a seamless daily routine for the children”, who were described as “gifted”. The chosen candidate will have a rotational schedule, one week working and one week off. As per Insider, while the client’ name was missing from the job ad, several details signal it pertains to the Ramaswamys. Vivek and his wife Apoorva, who is a professor and physician at Ohio State University, have two sons. The ad also said that the nanny would have to prepare vegetarian meals for the children – Ramaswamy is vegetarian. Also, the ages of the children mentioned in the job ad match the ages of the GOP leader’s sons. According to Insider, the job ad vanished from EstateJobs.com after the news outlet apprised the Ramaswamy campaign it would publish the story. Ramaswamy on soaring childcare costs The whopping salary being offered by Ramaswamy , who is known to make headlines for his controversial takes, comes in sharp contrast with his plans for Americans to deal with high childcare costs, reported Insider.  He said in May that he wants people to pay for childcare by taking the amount from their future potential Social Security benefits. [caption id=“attachment_13198782” align=“alignnone” width=“640”]Vivek Ramaswamy Vivek Ramaswamy has emerged as the most popular Republican candidate after Donald Trump. Reuters[/caption] According to the Republican, Americans should be able to access Social Security “earlier on in life when you actually need it to be able to provide for your children” instead of waiting till retirement to use these benefits. Ramaswamy’s net worth was more than $1 billion in August, according to a Forbes report. His fortune comes from the pharmaceutical research firm Roivant Sciences which he founded in 2014. The company, which went public in 2021, saw its stock rise nearly 40 per cent this year, the report added. Born to Indian immigrants, Ramaswamy has earned over $260 million from Roivant alone in the form of salary, bonuses and capital gains since founding the company, reported Forbes. In 2021, he stepped down as Roivant’s CEO to focus on his political career. The Harvard and Yale alumnus started his “anti-woke” asset management firm, Strive the same year. The company was recently valued at $300 million, with Ramaswamy’s stakes worth well above $100 million, noted Forbes. Ramaswamy worked for hedge fund QVT till 2014 which he had joined after his graduation. With inputs from agencies
