It’s a very busy Tuesday.

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly starts today. US President Donald Trump will deliver his speech.

Today also marks 60 years since the end of the 1965 Indo-Pak war, which lasted more than a month.

Donald Trump will meet Argentine President Javier Milei and will hold a separate meeting with a group of Muslim leaders, including Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Several other events are scheduled today. Here are the details:

80th session of UNGA, Trump to address

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly will begin today in New York, with world leaders gathering to discuss this year’s theme, “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.”

This year’s session will focus on Donald Trump’s return to the rostrum, the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, growing Western recognition of Palestinian statehood, and nuclear tensions with Iran.

Trump will speak today, eight months into his second term, which has seen major cuts to US foreign aid, sparking global humanitarian concerns and raising questions about the future role of the UN.

60 years of Indo-Pak war

Today marks 60 years since the end of the 1965 Indo-Pak war, which lasted more than a month and resulted in thousands of casualties.

The conflict began on 5 August 1965 over territorial disputes and gradually intensified.

Both India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire, which came into effect on 23 September that year.

Trump to meet Argentine President & leaders of Islamic nations

US President Donald Trump will meet Argentine President Javier Milei today during Milei’s visit to New York.

Milei, whose foreign policy aligns with the United States and Israel, will also hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the UNGA.

Trump will also meet a select group of Muslim leaders, including Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said Sharif will participate in discussions covering “issues pertaining to regional and international peace and security.”

Release of Kamala Harris’ memoir

Former US vice president Kamala Harris’ memoir, titled “107 Days” and published by Simon & Schuster, will be released today.

The book offers an inside account of the first woman to serve as vice president’s 2024 presidential campaign, in which she ran unsuccessfully against Donald Trump.

Asia Cup 2025: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

After losing to India by six wickets on Sunday, Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in their next Super 4s match today.

Sri Lanka had topped Group B of the Asia Cup, winning all three of their matches, but lost their opening Super 4 game against Bangladesh on Saturday.

Pakistan must win against Sri Lanka to stay in the tournament, or their elimination could become inevitable.

Zubeen Garg’s funeral

Popular singer Zubeen Garg will be cremated with full state honours today at a village near Guwahati.

A memorial will also be built at the cremation site, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The state government had declared three days of mourning until 22 September, which has been extended by a day for his cremation. Notably, Garg died in Singapore on Friday.
