The chilling story of a Haryana man who buried tenant alive for affair with his wife

In a shocking case from Haryana’s Rohtak district, a man allegedly buried his tenant alive in a 7-foot deep pit after suspecting him of having an affair with his wife.

The gruesome incident, which happened in December last year, remained hidden for months. It was only after a detailed police investigation that the truth finally surfaced on Monday, leading to the discovery of the victim’s body and the arrest of the accused.

Here’s how the crime unfolded and how the police managed to crack the case.

How an affair suspicion led to the murder

The chain of events began when Hardeep discovered that his tenant, Jagdeep, who lived in a portion of his house and worked as a yoga instructor at Baba Mastnath University in Rohtak, was allegedly having an affair with his wife.

Rather than confronting the situation, Hardeep decided to take matters into his own hands.

According to an NDTV report citing officials, he hired workers to dig a seven-foot-deep pit in Pantavas village of Charkhi Dadri, claiming it was for a borewell. But in reality, the pit was meant to serve as a deadly trap for Jagdeep.

On December 24, after Jagdeep returned from work, Hardeep and a group of accomplices abducted him. Jagdeep, who was originally from Mandothi village in Jhajjar district, had no idea what awaited him.

His captors tied his hands and legs, beat him, and transported him to the pit in Charkhi Dadri. Once there, they taped his mouth shut to silence any cries for help before throwing him into the pit and covering him with mud—burying him alive.

How police uncovered the crime

Ten days after Jagdeep was murdered, his uncle, Ishwar, who lived in Mandothi village in Jhajjar, grew worried about his disappearance. On February 3, he filed a missing person’s report at the Shivaji Colony police station.

Despite repeated searches by both the police and Jagdeep’s family, there were no immediate leads.

The investigation started at Jagdeep’s university, where officers reviewed CCTV footage and spoke to colleagues, but his whereabouts remained a mystery. Then, a major breakthrough came when police expanded their search to Janata Colony and its surrounding areas, The Times of India reported.

CCTV footage from the area showed four men abducting Jagdeep from his rented home, his hands and feet tied, before forcing him into a vehicle.

Digging deeper, investigators analysed mobile dump data, which led them to Pentaawas Kalan village in Charkhi Dadri. Examining Jagdeep’s call records, they gathered enough evidence to take Hardeep and one of his friends, Dharampal, into custody.

After obtaining their custody through the court, police officials interrogated the two men. It was during these sessions that they finally revealed the horrifying details of the murder.

Acting on their confession, a police team, accompanied by Jagdeep’s family, arrived at the crime scene and began excavation. Even though the accused had pointed out the exact location, retrieving the body proved to be a challenge due to the depth of the pit and the tightly packed soil.

Hours later, under the dim glow of torchlights, officers managed to dig deep enough to tie a rope around the remains and pull them out. Jagdeep’s body was finally recovered—exactly three months after his murder.

As of now, two suspects are in custody, while authorities continue their efforts to track down the remaining accused, NDTV reported.

“There are other accused in the case, who will also be arrested soon. The post-mortem has been conducted and we are waiting for the report,” said Crime Investigation Agency unit in-charge Kuldeep Singh.
