The Modi government, which marked 11 years of being in power on Monday, set to highlight its achivements while in office.

It is the third day of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s official visit to France, the European Union (EU), and Belgium. His trip aims to strengthen ties and reflect India’s strong stance against terrorism following Operation Sindoor.

Modi govt to showcase achievements

India has come along way since the Modi government took power in 2014.

Along the way, the government has taken several momentous decisions and achieved much during its time in power.

From successfully pulling off hosting the G20 summit in Delhi last year to increasing its defence exports over the years and carrying out Operation Sindoor as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Modi government has said to highlight its many national security wins.

The Modi government has also set to spotlight the major decisions it has made since taking power for a third consecutive term in 2024.

This includes The Union Cabinet approving a caste census and a unified pension for government employees.

Day 3 of Jaishankar’s Europe visit

Today is the third day of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s official visit to France, the European Union (EU), and Belgium, which will continue until June 14.

He began his journey on Sunday, starting with visits to Paris and Marseille in France, where he was scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Jean-Noel Barrot, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.

Notably, his visit is focused on strengthening ties and reflecting India’s firm approach towards terrorism after Operation Sindoor.

India and France have completed 25 years of their strategic partnership. The Ministry of External Affairs described the relationship as one built on “deep trust and commitment”, with both countries working closely across major strategic areas.

In Brussels, Jaishankar will take part in the first ministerial-level strategic dialogue with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative and Vice President. He will also meet senior officials from the European Commission and the European Parliament, and interact with various think tanks.

BTS members to be discharged from military

BTS members Kim Namjoon, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook are set to be discharged today from the South Korean military after completing their mandatory service.

With Jin and J-Hope already released from duty and back in the public eye, all seven members are now on track to reunite on stage.

Kim Seokjin (Jin), the eldest, was the first to enlist and also the first to return. He completed his service on June 12, 2024.

Alongside Namjoon, Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook, BTS member Suga is also due to finish his service this month.

Suga enlisted as a public service worker on September 22, 2023, and is expected to be discharged on June 21. Jin and J-Hope have already fulfilled their military obligations.

Iraq’s Mosul airport to reopen

Mosul International Airport in Iraq is scheduled to reopen today.

The airport’s reconstruction began in 2023 after it suffered heavy damage during the period of ISIS control in the city between 2014 and 2017.

Before its destruction during the conflict, the airport had been receiving limited flights from Turkey, the UAE, and Jordan.

Earlier, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport confirmed that the airport is now fully functional and open to all airlines with valid approvals, following a successful trial run on June 5 this year.

The reopening will be marked by the arrival of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, who is expected to travel on one of the first official flights to Mosul for the inauguration event.
