YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has landed in the soup after his crass comments on comic Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent, drew flak online. His remarks have created outrage on social media, with conversations rising about the regulation of such content.
Allahbadia, who runs the popular YouTube channel BeerBiceps, has apologised for the comments, urging people to forgive him “as a human being”. The 31-year-old podcaster is facing legal trouble over his “inappropriate” remarks.
But what did he say and why has it invited such outrage? Let’s take a look at the controversy
Ranveer Allahbadia stirs row
Ranveer Allahbadia, who recently featured as a judge on Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent, sparked a controversy with his “incest jokes” on the show.
A clip of the YouTuber went viral on social media, where he can be seen asking a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop?”
The latest episode of Raina’s show also featured popular content creators like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Mukhija as judges.
As the video surfaced online, it led to a barrage of criticism, with netizens calling out Allahbadia for the inappropriate comments.
Journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra condemned the “perverted creators” shaping the country’s “creative economy".
“This content is not designated as adult content - it can be seen with ease even by a child if the algorithm takes him or her there. The creators of the platform have zero sense of responsibility. I am also not surprised at all that four people at the desk – and lots in the audience – celebrated this and had a great laugh," he wrote on X.

Meet the perverted creators who are shaping our country’s creative economy. I am sure each one has a following of millions.

Speaking to CNN-News18, former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai called the behaviour “sick”. “It’s obscene and unnecessary and crossing the line. It’s sick. Pervert mind. People should cut him out, not subscribe to his channel. This is crossing the line. Family and family relations and religion is something that cannot be joked about. There should be a self-restraint. Dark humour is carrying it too far. Freedom of speech should be exercised the right way.”
Social media users also lambasted Allahbadia and other judges on this India’s Got Latent episode.
A user asked the Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to “take action against these people”. “It will leave a detrimental impact on kids and youth who are going to watch this (the episode).”
“What is considered funny has really degraded these days,” another commented.
“Freedom of speech is a double-edged sword. Sadly sometime its allows for the propagation of mediocrity and shock value masquerading as content [sic],” a third wrote.
Politicians react
The controversy snowballed as politicians expressed outrage over Allahbadia’s “sick comment”.
Speaking to the media, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he had not watched Allahbadia’s clip but came to know it was “very vulgar”.
“I have come to know about it. I have not seen it yet. Things have been said and presented in a wrong way. Everyone has freedom of speech, but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others. In our society, we have made some rules, and if someone violates them, it is absolutely wrong and action should be taken against them,” he said.
Reacting to Neelesh Misra’s post, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate wrote on X, “This is not creative It’s pervert. And we can’t normalise perverse behaviour as cool. The fact that this sick comment met loud applause must worry us all.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also reacted to Ranveer Allahbadia ’s crass joke on India’s Got Latent, calling the show “vulgar, blasphemous content that is passed off as comedy.” She said she would raise the issue in the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology.
“We need to set boundaries since these platforms influence young minds and they are passing off absolute rubbish as content. The language used by Ranveer Allahabadia which was also actively encouraged by others on that ‘comedy panel’ is unacceptable,” Chaturvedi posted on X.
I will be raising the issue regarding the show called India’s Got Latent as a member in the standing committee of IT& Communication for the kind of vulgar , blasphemous content that is passed off as comedy. We need to set boundaries since these platforms influence young minds and…

Ranveer Allahbadia apologises
As the row escalated, Allahbadia posted an apology video on his social media platforms.
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate it wasn’t even funny. Comedy isn’t my forte I am just going to say sorry. Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform and, obviously, this is not how I wish to use it. I’m not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened,” he said.
The YouTuber added, “Had a lapse in my judgement. The podcast is watched by people of all age groups and don’t want to take that responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing I would disrespect.”

Legal trouble for Allahbadia, Raina
The Mumbai Police said Monday (February 10) that they have begun an investigation against Ranveer Allahbadia for his controversial remarks.
“An inquiry is going on (in the matter),” Dikshit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 9, Mumbai Police, was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
Earlier, a team of Mumbai Police reached Khar’s Habitat building, where the episode of India’s Got Latent featuring Allahbadia was shot.
Several complaints have also been filed against Allahbadia, Samay Raina and others on the show.
Two Mumbai lawyers, Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, submitted a written complaint to the Mumbai Police, alleging obscene remarks were passed on parents, women, and their body parts.
“Police should register an FIR against the organiser, the online platform, the artists, and others concerned and thoroughly investigate the matter,” advocate Rai said, as per Indian Express.
The complaint filed with the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the National Commission for Women demanded strict action against those involved. The YouTuber, along with others on Raina’s show, has been accused of using abusive language.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) also waded into the controversy, raising serious concerns about the alleged rise in the prevalence of “obscene” content on various Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms and social media streaming sites. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar wrote a letter to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, calling for immediate regulatory action.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Priyank Kanoongo shot off a letter to YouTube over Allahbadia’s controversial remarks, demanding “urgent action to remove the concerned episode/videos” from the platform.
“Prior to the removal of such content, you are also required to submit details of the channel and the specific videos to the concerned police authorities where the FIR has been registered, for further necessary action. An Action Taken Report in this regard shall be furnished to the Commission within three (10) days from the date of issue of this letter,” the letter read.
Meanwhile, a Mumbai-based social activist has approached the Bandra magistrate court seeking criminal action against Allahbadia, Raina, and other organisers of India’s Got Latent, accusing them of spreading “obscenity and vulgarity”, reported Bar and Bench.
Notably, the Mumbai Police have not registered an FIR yet.
