Star cricketer Rinku Singh got engaged to Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Priya Saroj in a private ceremony held on Sunday.

The engagement took place at a hotel in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, and was attended by senior SP leaders, including party chief and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, his wife and Mainpuri MP Dimple Yadav.

The gathering saw over 300 guests from both cricket and political circles.

Rinku , who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Priya Saroj were also seen dancing in videos that have since gone viral on social media.

Who is Priya Saroj?

1. Priya Saroj was born on November 23, 1998, in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. She is the daughter of Tufani Saroj, a three-time MP and current Samajwadi Party MLA in the state.

2. A lawyer and politician from the Samajwadi Party, she is also one of the youngest Members of Parliament in the country.

3. Priya stepped into politics in 2024 and won the Machhlishahr seat by defeating senior BJP leader BP Saroj by more than 35,000 votes.

4. After completing her schooling at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in New Delhi, she pursued a BA from Delhi University and later earned her LLB from Amity University in Noida. She then began practising at the Supreme Court.

5. She is also a part of the parliamentary committee on social justice and empowerment.

6. Elected to the Lok Sabha at 25, she is one of the youngest parliamentarians in the country.

7. She first came into the spotlight during her father’s campaign for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Rinku Singh-Priya Saroj’s engagement ceremony: What we know

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was among the key figures present at the engagement ceremony and offered his warm wishes to the couple.

Speaking at the event, he said, “Politics and cricket are two very different fields. But when two people have similar thoughts and behaviours, the biggest thing is that both families are very happy. I congratulate both families.”

Other notable attendees included senior leaders like Jaya Bachchan, Dimple Yadav, Iqra Hasan, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla, and veteran politician Ram Gopal Yadav.

From the cricketing world, former players Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla, along with UP Ranji captain Aryan Juyal, were also present.

Several photos and videos from the ceremony have been shared by netizens on social media.

Priya’s father and SP MLA Tufani Saroj told ANI, “Rinku and Priya have known each other for some time. They were introduced through Priya’s friend’s father, who is a cricketer himself. With the blessings of both families, they have decided to get married.”

The wedding is scheduled for November 18 and will take place at Hotel Taj in Varanasi, according to PTI. Guests from cricket, Bollywood, business, and politics are expected to attend.

The alliance was finalised after both families met in Aligarh and agreed with mutual consent.

Rinku, 27, has played in two ODIs and 33 T20Is for India in recent years and is a key player for the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.
