All of Pakistan and many parts of the world have its eyes on one thing: the election results where Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Independents are battling it out, with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s Pakistan People’s Party coming in third. As per data provided by Pakistan’s Election Commission, the PTI-backed candidates have won 62 seats, the PML-N have secured 46 seats and the PPP have 39 seats. Others have bagged nine seats. As counting continues — we are yet to see a clear picture on who shall win the polls — here’s a report on how big Pakistan political leaders are faring. Nawaz Sharif [caption id=“attachment_13707882” align=“alignnone” width=“640”] Reuters[/caption] Nawaz Sharif, who is attempting to secure a fourth term as prime minister, has bagged a win from the NA-130 seat in Lahore. As per media reports, he has secured 171,024 votes, beating out PTI-backed Dr Yasmin Rashid who won 115,043 votes. Dr Rashid, former Punjab health minister, is facing a court trial in connection with the 9 May riots and has been unable to run her election campaign. However, it was not all good news for Sharif. He faced a significant defeat against independent candidate Shahzada Gastasap in NA-15 Mansehra constituency. Gastasap clinched 105,249 votes, while Nawaz managed to secure only 80,382 votes. Maryam Nawaz [caption id=“attachment_13707872” align=“alignnone” width=“640”] File image/Reuters[/caption] Like father, like daughter. The daughter of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, who contested from the National Assembly Constituency NA 119, has won the seat in Lahore with 83,855 votes. This is her first NA seat victory. While she secured 83,855 votes, her closest rival, PTI-backed Shehzad Farooq, clinched 68,376 votes. Shehbaz Sharif [caption id=“attachment_13709752” align=“alignnone” width=“640”] File image/Reuters[/caption] Former prime minister and PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif has won the PP-158 seat in Lahore with 38,642 votes, according to preliminary results from the Election Commission of Pakistan. Shehbaz served as Pakistan’s PM after Imran Khan’s ouster in April 2022. He stepped down from the post last August and dissolved the coalition government with PPP.
