SpaceX is set to launch its latest Starship megarocket today, with a test that aims to catch the world’s largest rocket booster using giant metal chopsticks.
The Starship Flight 8 test is scheduled to take off at 6:30 pm EST (5:00 am IST, Tuesday).
Notably, Starship is the tallest and most powerful rocket ever built, designed to be fully reusable. It stands at approximately 400 feet (122 metres) and consists of a massive Super Heavy booster with 33 Raptor engines in its first stage, topped by a Ship upper stage powered by six Raptor vacuum engines.
PM Modi to launch Project Lion
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to launch Project Lion, a Rs 29,000 crore initiative focused on disease management and habitat improvement, during his visit to Gujarat today.
The launch coincides with World Wildlife Day, which this year will discuss the theme ‘Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet.’
According to The Times of India, the project includes a veterinary hospital in Sasan, lion rescue facilities, drone surveillance, 100 tracker positions, 33 rapid response teams, and CCTV monitoring at forest entrances for lion conservation.
Key UN nuclear watchdog meeting in Vienna
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors will meet for its regular March meeting today at the agency’s headquarters in the Vienna International Centre (VIC), beginning at 10:30 CET (3:00 pm IST).
According to a press release, discussions are expected to cover topics including the Nuclear Safety Review 2025, Nuclear Security Review 2025, and Nuclear Technology Review 2025. The board will also address verification and monitoring in Iran in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolution, as well as the application of safeguards in North Korea.
Other expected discussions include nuclear safety, security, and safeguards in Ukraine, along with restoring the sovereign equality of IAEA Member States.
Mobile World Congress to kick off in Spain
