Two people were seriously injured on Sunday after being rammed by a speeding Lamborghini in Noida’s Sector 94.

While the luxury car reportedly belongs to popular YouTuber Mridul Tiwari, the car was driven by a car dealer named Deepak Kumar, who hails from Rajasthan.

A video has also taken over the internet where Kumar is asking if anyone had died when confronted by bystanders at the scene.

Many people are outraged by the video and are questioning the casual attitude towards reckless driving.

Here’s all we know about the incident.

What happened?

A red coloured Lamborghini reportedly rammed into two labourers in Noida, both of whom suffered serious injuries to their arms and legs.

Two others narrowly escaped, as per The Times of India.

A heated argument between the driver and a bystander was captured in a 51-second video of the aftermath that went viral on social media.

In the clip, a man can be heard confronting the driver, asking, “Are you practicing stunts?” To which, the driver responds, “Is anyone dead?” “What else? Just look there. Somebody please call the police,” another man said. After the locals alerted the police, one of them accused the driver of over-speeding. The driver was heard saying that he was pressing on the accelerator very softly. “Was that soft?” the local countered.

The injured labourers, who hail from Chhattisgarh, were rushed to a nearby hospital, and police said they are out of danger and have fractures in their legs.

The injured said they weren’t able to run as the car charged towards them at a high speed.

Who was the man behind the wheel?

Deepak Kumar, an Ajmer-based car dealer, was test-driving the expensive vehicle when it veered off the road and crashed into workers seated on a pavement close to a building that was still under construction.

According to the police, Deepak had travelled to Noida to assess the Lamborghini’s performance.

Bhupendra Singh, in charge at Sector 126 Police Station, told PTI that during questioning, Kumar told them that the accident happened due to a fault in the vehicle.

Police from Sector 126 station took Kumar into custody and registered an FIR under Sections 281 (rash driving), and 125 (a) (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The vehicle was also seized.

Police admitted that the incident had rekindled worries about speeding automobiles being driven carelessly on congested city streets, especially by inexperienced drivers exceeding speed restrictions.

Who owns the car?

The red Lamborghini is registered in the name of YouTuber Mridul Tiwari in Pondicherry.

“The owner, Mridul Tiwari, a resident of Noida and a YouTuber with over 18 million subscribers, was selling the car and Deepak had come to check its condition,” Noida ADCP Sumit Shukla said, as per Hindustan Times.

Tiwari is known for his comedy videos, with first YouTube video titled Sister vs Girlfriend, being released in October 2018.

He has more than 3.5 million Facebook followers and more than 536,000 Instagram followers, demonstrating his fame apart from YouTube.

Tiwari was recently listed among the Top 10 Indian YouTube Creators on YouTube.

According to reports, Tiwari acquired a Lamborghini Huracan in 2023.

Mridul Tiwari claimed to be the owner of the “World’s 1st Lamborghini with Jai Shree Ram” in an Instagram post on August 14, 2023.

He has been called in by the police for questioning as they look into who gave permission for the car to be used at the time of the incident.

Why is the incident compared to the Pune Porsche car crash?

Notably, the incident comes a year after the fatal Porsche accident case in Pune, where two IT engineers were killed.

The victims, Aneesh Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta, both 24 and from Madhya Pradesh, were killed early on May 19, 2024, when their motorbike was struck by a speeding Porsche driven by a 17-and-a-half-year-old teenager who was reportedly intoxicated at Pune’s Kalyani Nagar intersection.

“Owning a ₹50 lakh+ car in India now seems to mean owning the road too. A Lamborghini mows down two labourers, and the driver reacts casually—no guilt, no remorse. When bail is just a few lakhs and a legal essay away, why would they care?” another user wrote.
