Deepti Chaurasia, the 38-year-old daughter-in-law of Kamal Kishore, the pan masala baron who owned Kamla Pasand and Rajshree Pan Masala, allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday at her Vasant Vihar home in Delhi.
According to officials, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house. Now, a diary recovered from her bedroom reportedly mentions a “dispute” with her husband, Harpreet Chaurasia.
Deepti’s brother has also made shocking allegations of torture and extra-marital affairs against Harpreet. However, the Chaurasia family has denied any wrongdoing, including claims of disputes between the couple.
As the investigation unfolds, we take a look at the case.
What do we know about Deepti Chaurasia’s suicide?
On Tuesday, according to the sources in the Delhi police, Deepti was found hanging at her residence in Southwest Delhi’s Vasant Vihar.
Deepti and Harpreet tied the knot in 2010; they have a 14-year-old son.
According to The Indian Express, the police said that Harpreet was at the gym when he was informed by his mother that Deepti was not responding to her calls.
“The husband got home, went to the second floor and entered the bedroom, where he found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan. They lived together in the house,” the police officer said.
Deepti was rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital, where the doctor declared her dead on arrival.
At the time of the incident, only seven to eight domestic workers were present in the house, say the police.
What does Deepti’s diary reveal?
The news agency ANI reported, citing police officials, that a diary was recovered from Deepti’s room, in which she mentioned the dispute with her husband.
“A diary recovered from her room mentions marital discord between the two,” a police official said.
“If there is no love and trust in a relationship, what is the point of life?” she reportedly wrote in the diary.

The remaining pages of the diary are being examined to understand Deepti’s state of mind in the days leading up to the incident.
What are Deepti’s family members alleging?
While speaking to the news agency ANI, Rishabh, Deepti’s brother, said, “Her mother-in-law and husband used to beat her. Her husband, Harpreet, had affairs. When we got to know about it, we took our daughter home… After that, her mother-in-law took her back."
He further made serious allegations against Harpreet. “My sister used to call me and say that she was tortured and that her husband had affairs. I don’t know whether my sister was killed or died by suicide. I spoke to her 2-3 days ago… I just want justice… My sister was married in 2010. His relations with her husband were not good. He used to physically assault her and abuse her."
Reports in the media also claim that Harpreet allegedly got married twice; his second wife is a South Indian film actress.
Deepti’s grieving mother, Sharda, told The Indian Express, “She got to know about her daughter’s death only around 12 pm on Wednesday. “I have just cremated her. Can you bring my daughter back?”
What does the Chaurasia family say?
The Chaurasias have firmly denied the allegations and reports of a dispute between the two.
The family advocate, Rajender Singh, said, “Whatever happened is very unfortunate, and they are cooperating with the police.”
Dismissing Deepti’s brother’s statements on domestic violence and an affair, Singh said that Harpreet was in a state of shock and emotional distress.
“Both families decided that the cremation will be done together today because we want to give full respect to her. This is a huge loss for both families. Whatever is being reported in the media is totally false. There is no allegation in the suicide note. She has not particularly named anyone to be responsible for,” Singh added.
How is the investigation unfolding?
The investigation has begun under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), a provision that deals with inquiries into unnatural or suspicious deaths.
An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday, police said. The statement of the deceased’s family is yet to be recorded.
“Inquest proceedings have been initiated, but no formal complaint has been received from the woman’s family. The statements of all her family members will be recorded. Further inquiry is underway,” an officer confirmed.
No FIR has been registered in the case. Police are waiting for a detailed autopsy report, which could help determine whether any external pressure or injury is linked to the death.
