The counting of votes for the Assembly elections is underway in Maharashtra. All eyes are on the outcome of the battle between the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti coalition and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which is seeking to make a comeback.

Since, the counting of votes for 288 seats is taking place across the state, district authorities are expecting victory processions after the declaration of results. But one district thinks differently. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar formerly known as ‎Aurangabad) has banned victory processions after results are declared.

Here is all you need to know about it.

  • The district authorities in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have banned victory processions after the result declaration of the state Assembly elections on Saturday.

  • On Friday, a day ahead of the vote counting, District Collector Dilip Swami convened a meeting with senior police officials, according to news agency Press Trust of India.

  • According to Swami, to avoid tense situations after the announcement of results victory processions have been banned. He said, “When the results come out, the situation turns a little tense. So in order to avoid law and order issues, we are not going to allow any victory procession on the result day.”

  • He further asserted that party workers would not be allowed to form a group on result day in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. He said, “Sometimes, party workers come together and sometimes their coming together turns into a procession. We are not going to allow that also.”

  • The processions will be allowed once the situation is deemed to be peaceful. “Later, once everything is peaceful, we will allow the processions. We have issued prohibitory orders accordingly,” the District Collector said.

  • The counting began at 8 am while the polling took place in a single phase on Wednesday (November 20) .

Female voter turnout surges in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

The area has seen a surge in female voters on polling day this year, reported the Times of India. There was a six per cent rise in female voter turnout as compared to the 2019 elections.

According to Swami, various awareness drives involving female voters have resulted in more women exercising their right to vote. “We started our drives for assembly polls soon after the Lok Sabha election. We took help from various self-help groups (SHGs) to reach out to voters with an appeal for voting. A series of special drives were also arranged through Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (State Women’s Development Corporation) to sensitise female voters. Workshops were also held targeting working women,” reported TOI quoting Swami.
