Fresh troubles are mounting for Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris after assault allegations have been levelled against her husband, Doug Emhoff.

According to a new bombshell report, the Second Gentleman’s behaviour at his previous law firm was “inappropriate” and “misogynistic.” His former colleagues have alleged that he used to flirt with women and held men-only cocktail hours in the office.

These claims come soon after Emhoff made headlines for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend for flirting with a valet worker way back in 2012.

These allegations pose a danger to his feminist and ‘wife guy’ image, which the Harris presidential campaign has worked hard on.

‘Misogynistic’ at work

According to another report by Dailymail, which cited his former colleagues, Emhoff was “inappropriate” and “misogynistic” at work.

His former colleagues from the Venable Los Angeles Office that Emhoff ran from 2006 to 2017 said that “he used to yell expletives, held men-only cocktail hour in the office, revoked work perks from women who didn’t flirt with him, and took only young, attractive associates in a limousine to a ball.”

The report also cited a 2019 lawsuit claiming sex discrimination by other partners in the LA office Emhoff ran.

According to the colleagues, Emhoff was an “a**hole” and his behaviour was “inappropriate.”

“One senior former staffer claimed Emhoff ‘bragged’ about yelling “get the f*** out of my office” to a female partner at the firm, later telling his top male colleagues that he had ‘put her in her place’. A misogynist, that’s who does that,” the report said.

“There were deadlines that, if you were one of his favourite people, wouldn’t apply. But if you weren’t, they would,” another former colleague told Dailymail.

“He had, for many years, cocktail parties where only men were invited. In the office, on Friday evening,” a former colleague said, adding, “When my colleague brought that to the attention of Venable [around 2010], that stopped.”

The 59-year-old allegedly hired an “unqualified” part-time model as a legal secretary because “she was young, attractive and friendly with the powerful men in the office.”

Emhoff did not react to these latest claims.

Assaulting ex-girlfriend

Emhoff, 59, allegedly slapped his then-girlfriend so hard that she spun around, according to a Dailymail expose, citing three friends of the woman assaulted by Emhoff.

The incident reportedly transpired after an event at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2012. The report referred to the woman using a pseudonym, ‘Jane’, and did not disclose her name as she is a successful New York attorney.

One of the friends claimed that the woman called them immediately after the incident and informed them about the alleged assault by the Second Gentleman.

“It was hard to hear her because she was sobbing. She told me she was with a guy, and he hit her,” the friend said.

Jane first said in 2014 that she had dated Emhoff, and she repeated the complete tale of his alleged abuse in 2018 when then-Senator Harris was in the spotlight for grilling Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in a Senate hearing over sexual assault claims.

Emhoff allegedly ended the Cannes trip early and returned to Los Angeles for his daughter’s birthday and the two never saw each other again. According to Dailymail, a third friend suggests that Emhoff was unapologetic about the entire incident.

Extramarital affair

Earlier in August, Emhoff was in the news after he admitted to having an extramarital affair and that contributed to the breakup of his first marriage.

“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side,” he said in a statement shared with CBS News.

Before the confession, Dailymail had indicated that the woman – a teacher at his children’s school – had become pregnant in 2009.

As per the report, which cited its sources, the pregnancy had ended in a miscarriage.

The couple had separated when the affair happened. As per court records, Kerstin filed for divorce in 2009 and the agreement was finalised in late 2010.

Emhoff and Harris met on a blind date in 2013 and married the following year. According to a CBS report, Harris was aware of the affair before her marriage.

Emhoff, who is seen just as a man who loves his wife, is often spotted at countless fundraisers and election campaign events, and giving interviews about the importance of men supporting the women in their lives.

With the latest strings of allegations, his image of a good man is threatened.

Kamala Harris’s new urgency

US Presidential elections are less than four weeks away.

Harris is facing fresh challenge of defining how her potential presidency would be different from that of President Joe Biden.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Two and a half months into her unexpected candidacy, the Vice President has so far largely relied on her age and biography to signal a break from the 82-year-old Biden and her 78-year-old Republican rival Donald Trump.

The first vice president to mount a bid to replace a leader of their party in almost a quarter century, Harris is trying to strike a delicate balance.

Harris’ team has tried to keep Biden at a distance on the campaign trail – the pair have held only a single campaign event together — yet she has been pulled into appearing by his side to monitor hurricanes and address emergencies in the Middle East.
