Every day, more than four dozen accidents occur on Indian roads. Worse, it seems that the number of accidents is only increasing. India witnessed nearly 4.5 lakh road accidents in 2022 compared to just over 4 lakh accidents in 2021. The number of lives lost in accidents also increased to 1.71 lakh in 2022 compared to 1.55 lakh in 2021. Data shows two-wheelers are most accident-prone, while buses are the least accident-prone. May seems to be the most dangerous month to drive and September seems to be the safest month. Over-speeding is the biggest cause of accidents, while Uttar Pradesh recorded the maximum number of road deaths. A National Crime Records Bureau report said Delhi accounted for the highest number of road accidents in the country, while Bihar recorded the maximum number of road accidents near religious places.
