Devotees take a holy dip at the Sangam on the first day of Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. PTI

The Maha Kumbh Mela is underway in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj with millions of devotees participating in the world’s largest religious congregation. The religious event that began from January 13 has already witnessed close to 1.65 crore pilgrims taking a holy dip on Monday, the first day of the event.

As many as 40 crore pilgrims are expected to travel to the city for the religious event.

While Maha Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years, the one being held this year is especially significant due to celestial permutations and combinations occurring after 144 years.
