Vijayadashami, popularly known as Dussehra, is one of the greatest and most significant festivals observed by Hindus nationwide. Every year, it is observed on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha, which, according to the Gregorian calendar, falls either in September or October. The vibrant celebration will be held this year tomorrow, i.e. 24 October. The word “Dussehra” is derived from Sanskrit words dasha (ten) and hara (defeat). The day represents the victory of Goddess Durga over the legendary demon Mahishasura as well as Lord Ram’s conquest over Ravana in other mythological tales.
