Preparations are in full swing in India which is set to celebrate its 78th Independence Day on August 15 (Thursday). The day holds immense importance as it reminds us of the ultimate sacrifices of both heard and unheard heroes of the nation’s freedom struggle.
The British, who had been ruling India for almost 200 years, decided to grant Independence in August 1947 but this came at a huge cost: India was divided into two nations, namely India and Pakistan.
Did you know that Pakistan had been granted independence on August 15 just like India, but because Lord Mountbatten wanted to be present at the power transfer ceremony of both nations, the neighbour began celebrating its independence day on August 14?
