A 36-year-old Hyderabad woman has been found murdered in Australia’s Buckley on Saturday.
Her body was allegedly discovered in a waste bin along the side of the road 84 km away from her residence in Point Cook.
Identified as Chaithanya Swetha Madhagani, she was staying with her husband and son in Australia.
According to reports, her husband may have been behind the murder, who flew to Hyderabad following the incident and handed over their child to her parents.
Here’s what we know so far.
Body found in wheelie bin, husband flees to India
According to reports, authorities were alerted by an anonymous call in the morning, which led them to an isolated road in rural Victoria where the body was discovered.
Police found the body of the young mother-of-one dumped inside a green waste bin in Buckley, about 37 kilometres west of Geelong, shortly after midday. Photos taken at the site show the bin with a green lid half-hidden in the bush, next to a crumpled bundle of white material lying on the ground nearby, reports news.com.
Investigators are treating the Swetha’s death as suspicious and have set up a crime scene at the location. A second crime scene was established on Mirka Way in Point Cook, where Swetha lives with her husband and son. Police believe the parties involved in her death knew each other, and the offender may have fled overseas.

More ShortsSwetha’s husband Ashok, who is said to have left for India with his three-year-old son just days before the police discovered the body, is reportedly the primary suspect.
So, was Shwetha’s husband behind the murder?
According to The New Indian Express, Ashok allegedly killed Swetha before fleeing to India with their son, and confessed his crime to Swetha’s parents.
After receiving the information, Uppal MLA Bandari Lakshma Reddy, who represents Swetha’s constituency in Hyderabad, met with her parents.
He told PTI that at the request of the Swetha’s parents, he wrote a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs to bring her mortal remains to Hyderabad.
The MLA said he also informed the office of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy in this regard.
‘Very lovely lady’
Swetha’s tragic death sent shockwaves through communities in Melbourne’s west, as well as India.
“We are unable to digest this. It is too far to think or even imagine,” said Praveen Kumar Thopucherla, executive chairperson of the Melbourne Telanganga Forum, adding that the entire community was shocked to learn of her death.
She was very active in the community, and regularly attended events, he added.
Swetha’s neighbour remembered her as “very lovely, very outgoing and friendly” when speaking with ABC News. She came to Australia as a student after moving from AS Rao Nagar in Hyderabad. Later, she received citizenship and settled in the country.
“She was so friendly and she adored her kid, her son. She was just talking about like the school and kindergartens and what to do and all those sorts of things and then she wanted to catch up regularly,” her neighbour added.
Though no arrests had been made yet, a Victoria Police spokesperson previously said there was no immediate threat to the community.
