It is set to be a busy Tuesday with several events lined up for the day.

Firstly, V Narayanan is set to take over the reins of Isro from Chairman S Somanath today while the first hearing of the impeachment trial of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will take place.

Sri Lankan President Dissanayake is set to visit China from today. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami is likely to roll out Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

V Narayanan to take over as head of Isro

V Narayanan will take over the reins of Isro from chairman S Somanath on January 14. A native of Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, Narayanan studied in a government school and had a humble beginning in Isro, reported Times of India.

He is the son of a farmer who rose through the ranks in India’s elite space agency to become a cryogenic engine developer and played a key role in the country’s development of a cryogenic engine - a technology that was crucial for the launch of Chandrayaan-2 and 3 missions.

First hearing in impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk Yeol

Today, the first hearing of the impeachment trial of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will take place. According to Indian Express, Yeol will not attend the first hearing over safety concerns .

The Constitutional Court is set to determine whether Yoon will be removed from office or reinstated. According to Reuters, Yoon’s push to impose martial law has triggered South Korea’s worst political crisis in decades and shaken confidence in the country’s economy, the fourth largest in Asia.

Sri Lankan President Dissanayake set to visit China

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will embark on a three-day visit to China starting today. The visit signifies the 68 years of Sri Lanka-China relations, government spokesman and minister Nalinda Jayathissa said.

Dissanayake’s visit to China follows his visit to India in December, his first foreign trip since assuming charge on September 21. The president will be accompanied by senior ministers, Vijitha Herath the Foreign Minister, and Bimal Rathnayaka, the Minister of Transport.

Uttarakhand CM likely to roll out Uniform Civil Code

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is likely to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) today, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

Earlier, Dhami highlighted the importance of the UCC, referencing the vision of Dr BR Ambedkar, who had laid the foundation for a uniform civil code while drafting the Indian Constitution. He was speaking at a rally in Bareilly, reported news agency ANI.

Saudi Arabia implements stricter work visa rules for overseas workers

Stricter work visa will be implemented in Saudi Arabia just six months after the idea was proposed. Now, the country has issued a circular requiring the pre-verification of professional and academic qualifications of Indian workers for all work visa applications, reported the New Indian Express.

This move could reduce the influx of Indian workers due to the limited number of qualified training centres to ensure quality control of Indian workers.
