Republican convention follows Trump assassination attempt

The campaign team for Donald Trump planned to open this week’s convention with a softer, more optimistic tone, aiming to broaden the appeal of the divisive leader among moderate voters and people of colour. However, the shooting incident has profoundly shaken the political landscape, reported AP.

In the wake of this event, issues such as the Democrats’ post-debate turmoil, the GOP’s potential governing plans, and even Trump’s criminal convictions have taken a backseat to concerns over political violence and national stability.

The presumptive Republican nominee and his allies prepare to address the US during their four-day convention in Milwaukee.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the monsoon will remain active in Peninsular and central India over the next 4-5 days. Several states have experienced severe rainfall recently, resulting in flooding, loss of lives, and property damage.

The IMD stated, “Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during 15th-16th; Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on 15th, and Kerala & Mahe on 15th July.”

Mihir Shah’s custody ends

A local court in Mumbai had placed Mihir Shah, the main accused in the BMW hit-and-run case, under six-day police custody, set to end today (July 16).

The 24-year-old Mihir Shah had been on the run since the accident occurred on July 7. He was apprehended by the police three days later after an extensive search involving 11 police teams and the Crime Branch, along with a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against him.

Mihir Shah was allegedly intoxicated and driving the vehicle when the hit-and-run accident happened, resulting in the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and injuries to her husband, Pradeep Nakhwa.
