Sri Lanka general election results to be announced
Results of the snap general elections called by new President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will be announced today. The elections were called to secure a majority in parliament to back his policies in the island nation struggling to recover from a crushing financial crisis, reported news agency Reuters.

Sri Lanka has 17.1 million voters who are eligible to participate in the election, informed Reuters. Notably, About 1 million of them are first-time voters.
Voters directly elect 196 members to parliament from 22 constituencies under a proportional representation system. The remaining 29 seats will be allocated according to the island-wide proportional vote obtained by each party.
PM Modi heads to Bihar’s Jamui
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will head to Bihar’s Jamui to commemorate Janjatiya Gaurav Divas marking the 150th birth anniversary celebration of tribal icon Birsa Munda.
During his visit, Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 6,640 crore, aimed at uplifting tribal communities and improving infrastructure in rural and remote areas of the region, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement.
He will lay the foundation stone of 25 additional Eklavya Model Residential Schools, worth over Rs 1,110 crore, furthering the commitment to quality education for tribal children, reported news agency PTI.
Election rallies in poll-bound Jharkhand
Union Ministers Amit Shah and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and others are set to hold rallies in Jharkhand today. While Shah will address rallies in Giridih and Bokaro, UP CM will address three in Dhanbad and Bokaro. Meanwhile, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will also address rallies in Giridih and Deogarh.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma will address two rallies in Sahibganj while Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren will address five rallies in Deogarh, Dumka and Bokaro. The second phase of polling is set for November 20 while votes will be counted on November 23.
Last day to file ITR
Today is the last day to file an Income Tax Return (ITR) for corporates and individuals requiring audit for the financial year 2024-25.
The deadline was set for October 31, 2024, initially, but was extended to November 15. Any further extension to this deadline is unlikely.
