It’s a crucial Wednesday today as Sanjay Malhotra, RBI’s new Governor, will officially take charge.

PM Narendra Modi will interact with young innovators at the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon.

Saudi Arabia will be confirmed by FIFA as the 2023 World Cup host today.

Here’s how the day will unfold.

New RBI leader to take charge

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will welcome its 26th governor on Wednesday, as Sanjay Malhotra officially takes charge.

His appointment marks the conclusion of Shaktikanta Das’s six-year tenure, during which he successfully navigated critical economic challenges.

FIFA decision on Saudi Arabia

The inevitable result has been clear since last year: Saudi Arabia will be confirmed by FIFA as the 2023 World Cup host today.

The 2030 World Cup also will be awarded to a six-nation, three-continent project led by co-hosts Spain, Portugal Morocco. It gives a single game each at South American neighbours Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, the first host in 1930.

PM Modi to interact with young innovators

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with young innovators at the grand finale of Smart India Hackathon - 2024 via videoconferencing on Wednesday at 4.30 pm.

The seventh Smart India Hackathon will run concurrently at 51 centres nationwide, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said.

MEA briefing on Bangladesh situation

Ministry of External Affairs officials will brief the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on the situation in Bangladesh on December 11.

Bangladesh’s minority Hindus, which constitute only about eight per cent of the 170 million population, have faced over 200 attacks in 50-odd districts since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government on August 5.

Things took a turn for the worse after Hindu spiritual leader Das was arrested in a sedition case. He was later denied bail by a court, triggering protests by community members in various locations, including the capital Dhaka and the port city of Chattogram.

National Panchayat Awards

The National Panchayat Awards will be given on December 11 to 45 panchayats — 17 of which are led by women — for achievements in various areas.

According to the Panchayati Raj Ministry, the award recognises the exemplary efforts of Panchayati Raj Institutions in driving inclusive and sustainable development at the grassroots level.

SC to hear Sisodia’s plea

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court would hear AAP leader Manish Sisodia’s pleas seeking relaxation of bail conditions.

The conditions require him to report to the investigating officer twice a week in the corruption and money laundering cases related to the Delhi excise policy.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) will organise a public hearing in Kolkata between Wednesday and Friday with an aim to resolve pending cases related to women’s issues and provide immediate solutions, wherever possible.

The public hearing — “Rashtriya Mahila Aayog – Aapke Dwaar” — would be led by NCW member Dr Archana Majumdar.

Traceability for safe SMS service

To enhance message traceability, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued Direction in August, mandating that all commercial messages from senders to recipients must be traceable.

With effect from December 11, any traffic (messages) where the chain of Telemarketers is not defined or does not match with pre-defined chain shall be rejected from today
