Judgment on Donald Trump’s conviction in hush money case
A New York judge is set to decide whether President-elect Donald Trump's criminal conviction on charges involving hush money paid to a porn star should be overturned in light of the US Supreme Court’s July ruling on presidential immunity, reported news agency Reuters.
It is the first of two pivotal choices that the judge must make after Trump’s November 5 election victory. Justice Juan Merchan must also decide whether to go ahead with sentencing Trump on November 26 as currently scheduled while many predict that sentencing is now unlikely, reported Reuters.
Israeli President Herzog to meet US counterpart Joe Biden
US President Joe Biden will meet his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog at the White House today. According to Reuters, the two are expected to discuss the ongoing wars in Gaza and Lebanon. It is expected that Ron Dermer, a former Israeli ambassador to the US and advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will join Herzog in the meeting with Biden, reported CBS News.
Any ceasefire talks mediated by the United States, Qatar and Egypt have been stalled while efforts to halt the wars by third-party nations between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon have also been ignored.
Booker Prize 2024 ceremony to take place in London
The winner of this year’s Booker Prize will be announced today in London, United Kingdom. Six authors are the finalists for the prestigious award for fiction this year.
This year five of the six finalists are women, the largest number in the prize’s 55-year history, reported news agency AP. These include Percival Everett, Rachel Kushner, Samantha Harvey, Anne Michaels, Charlotte Wood and Yael van der Wouden.

ICJ set to deliver decision on Azerbaijan-Armenia case
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will deliver its judgement on the preliminary objections raised by Azerbaijan in the case concerning the Application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Armenia v. Azerbaijan), reported Armenpress.am.
Armenia filed the case at the International Court of Justice in 2021, accusing Azerbaijan of a “state-sponsored policy of Armenian hatred” that has led to “systemic discrimination, mass killings, torture and other abuse,” Reported AP. This came from long-standing tensions that erupted into a 2020 war over Nagorno-Karabakh leaving more than 6,600 people dead.
PM Modi to hold roadshow in Pune
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to a roadshow in Pune ahead of the Maharashtra elections. The rally is scheduled to take place at SP College Ground.
Police have notified a ban on heavy vehicles on 13 key roads today in view of the prime minister’s roadshow, reported The Indian Express.
Earlier, he was addressing two rallies, in Vidarbha and Marathwada regions, when he attacked Congress and reiterated his ’ek hai to safe hai’ (together, we are safe) call for Dalit, OBC, Adivasi unity.
