RBI to announce rate cuts
The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) commenced its bimonthly review of the economy on Wednesday, with the review scheduled to conclude on December 6.
The prevailing sentiment among most experts is that the central bank is likely to maintain interest rates at their current levels, with market participants closely monitoring any potential liquidity enhancement measures following a recent downturn in economic growth.
FM Sitharaman to start pre-Budget consultation
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will commence customary pre-budget consultations with various stakeholders beginning Friday.
As part of the process, she will meet eminent economists on December 6 to seek their inputs regarding upcoming Budget amid seven-quarter low GDP print of 5.4 per cent recorded in the second quarter of the current financial year.
‘Delhi Chalo’ march
Farmers from Punjab have decided to resume their “Delhi Chalo” march to press their demands, which include a legal assurance of minimum support price (MSP), before the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
The planned march also coincides with a similar agitation led by farmers from Uttar Pradesh, who too kicked off their ‘Dilli Chalo’ march – although with different set of demands – and have been currently made to stop at the Noida-Delhi border.
Princess of Wales’s Christmas carol concert
Catherine, the Princess of Wales, will host her annual Christmas carol concert on December 6.
It will focus on “how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives,” Kensington Palace has announced.
It will be the princess’ fourth “Together at Christmas” carol service at Westminster Abbey and it will broadcast in the United Kingdom on Christmas Eve.
Engineer Rashid’s plea to be heard
Delhi High Court will be hearing a plea on the regular bail plea of Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid jailed in connection with the Jammu and Kashmir terror-funding case.
Engineer Rashid’s counsel, advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, urged the court to expedite the interim bail decision, pending for months. Rashid has sought bail to attend the ongoing Parliamentary session.
However, the court deferred its decision until the next hearing.
RLD’s ‘harmony fortnight’
In a bid to further cement its place in the electoral arena of Uttar Pradesh, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) will organise a “samrasta pakhwada” (harmony fortnight) from December 6 to December 23.
The various programmes in each district and Assembly constituency aim to maintain harmony, equality and brotherhood.
Public holiday in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra government has declared a holiday on Friday, December 6, to commemorate Mahaparinirvan Diwas, the death anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
As per a circular, local holiday will be observed in all government and semi-government offices in Mumbai and suburban districts to mark Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
Dr Ambedkar died on December 6, 1956.
Second pink-ball Test – India vs Australia
The second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the pink ball Test between Australia and India will begin on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.
The toss will take place half an hour before the start of the second Test of the Australia vs. India series, which is scheduled to commence at 9.30 am (IST).
National Wrestling Championship kicks off
The Karnataka Wrestling Association will host the upcoming 2024 Senior National Wrestling Championship in Bengaluru from December 6 to 8.
