She will pay her respects at the Maqam Echahid, a memorial built to honour the martyrs in the Algerian war of independence.

Economic Sciences Nobel Prize to be announced

The Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences will be announced today.

The 2024 Nobel Prize announcement started last week, recognizing outstanding scientific, economic, literature and peace contributions.

The award comes with a prize amount of 11 million Swedish crowns ($1.1 million).

Each prize can be shared by up to three laureates.

Belgium’s King Philippe, Queen Mathilde state visit to France

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will be visiting France from October 14 to 16 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.

They will be accompanied by representatives of the federal, regional and community governments.

They will visit the cities of Paris, Chantilly and Lille.

Meeting on Waqf Amendment Bill

A two-day long meeting of Joint Committee of Parliament will be held from Monday on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Parliament House Annexe.

On the first day, the committee will hear the suggestions of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Delhi and the views of some experts on the bill.

Commercial vehicle owners to go on strike in Mizoram

Commercial vehicle operators in Mizoram have called for an indefinite strike from Monday against the hike in fuel prices in the State.

The Lalduhoma-headed Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs 4 each from September 1. Petrol and diesel in Mizoram now cost Rs 99.24 and Rs 88.02 litre, one of the highest in the northeastern region.

“In a meeting on October 7, we decided to stop the operation of all commercial vehicles if the government fails to respond to our demand,” PC Malsawma, president of the union said.

India to host World Telecom Standardisation Assembly 2024

World telecom leaders, experts and academia from more than 190 countries are set to attend the 10-day World Telecom Standardisation Assembly (WTSA2024) in the National Capital from October 14 to 24.

Scheduled in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, the outreach sessions aim to provide a distinctive platform to students for learning and direct engagement with industry experts, fostering meaningful interactions and knowledge exchange.

WHO’s polio vaccination drive in Gaza

The World Health Organization has said that the vaccination drive will begin on October 14 and children under the age of 10 will be eligible for the campaign.

In August, Gaza reported its first confirmed case of polio in 25 years. The WHO is anxious to prevent an epidemic of variant type 2 polio virus (cVDPV2), after it was detected in a 10-month-old baby in Gaza in August.
