Delhi court to pronounce order on Rashid Engineer’s bail plea
A Delhi court is expected to announce its decision on the bail plea of Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, who is currently jailed in connection with a terror funding case.
Rashid, who gained prominence after defeating former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Baramulla during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has been in jail since 2019.
The order on Rashid’s regular bail plea comes after Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh heard arguments in an in-camera hearing on August 28 and reserved his decision.
He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his alleged involvement in a 2017 terror funding case. His name surfaced during the investigation of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who was accused of funding terrorist and separatist groups in the Kashmir valley.
