The 16th Brics Summit is set to begin in Russia’s Kazan from today. While, the IMF and World Bank annual meetings will also take place.

Former US President Barack Obama will campaign for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in Madison, Wisconsin ahead of the presidential election. Meanwhile, former Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s memoir will be released today.

Delhi High Court to hear plea seeking permission to allow Sonam Wangchuk’s climate protest at Jantar Mantar.

16th Brics Summit to begin in Russia’s Kazan

The 16th Brics Summit is set to begin in Russia’s Kazan city. The two-day summit is based on the theme ‘Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security’, stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from other BRICS nations and invited leaders.

This year member nations Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, will be joined by new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE. Leaders will discuss how to continue existing collaborations and plan new ways to work together for development and security.

IMF and World Bank annual meetings

Global finance chiefs will gather in Washington today on account of the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. More than 10,000 people from finance ministries, central banks and civil society groups will come together to discuss efforts to boost patchy global growth, deal with debt distress and finance the green energy transition.

But the elephant in the meeting rooms will be the potential for a November 5 election victory by US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to upend the international economic system with massive new US tariffs and borrowing and a shift away from climate cooperation, reported news agency Reuters.

Barack Obama to campaign for Kamala Harris in Madison, Wisconsin

Former United States President Barack Obama will campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris in Wisconsin’s Madison.  Harris also plans to campaign in  Wisconsin this week, reported The Hill.

Meanwhile, Obama hosted a $4 million Los Angeles fundraiser for Harris last month and held a rally for her in Pittsburgh targeting Black male voters last week, The Hill said in their report.

First Lady Jill Biden also campaigned for the Democratic nominee in Arizona this month while former first lady Michelle Obama will headline a get-out-the-vote rally in Atlanta later this month.

Alexei Navalny’s memoir to be released

Former Russian Leader of Opposition Alexei Navalny’s memoir will be released today. He died under mysterious circumstances in a remote prison camp above the Arctic Circle earlier this year.

The strange circumstances of his imprisonment and eventual death drew widespread criticism among the masses and many blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for being involved in his alleged murder.

In April, his widow Yulia Navalnaya revealed that her late husband had started to write a memoir in 2020 after he had been poisoned by what Western doctors said was a nerve agent and was flown to Germany for medical treatment, reported Al Jazeera.

Delhi HC to hear plea seeking permission to allow Sonam Wangchuk’s climate protest at Jantar Mantar

The Delhi High Court is set to hear a plea seeking permission to allow engineer and activist Sonam Wangchuk’s climate protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

On October 5, Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike to draw attention to the region’s demands for statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
