First JPC meeting for ‘One Nation, One Election’
The first meeting of the joint parliamentary panel on “One Nation, One Election” will take place today.
Last month, the Parliament passed the motion on forming the panel which has 39 members to ensure representation of maximum states. The panel is headed by former Law Minister PP Chaudhary.
PM Modi to visit Andhra Pradesh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam to launch various development projects.
He will launch the NTPC Green Energy Limited Green Hydrogen Hub Project at Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam. The PM will also launch a series of railway and road projects in Andhra Pradesh, valued at over ₹19,500 crore.
He will also lay the foundation for the Bulk Drug Park and Krishnapatnam Industrial Area today.
Delhi court to deliver verdict in 1984 riots case involving Sajjan Kumar
A Delhi court is set to deliver its verdict on January 8 in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case involving former Indian National Congress MP Sajjan Kumar.
The case relates to the alleged killing of two individuals during the anti-Sikh riots that year in Saraswati Vihar.
Delhi court to hear bail plea of AAP MLA Naresh Balyan
A Delhi court will hear the bail plea of AAP’s Uttam Nagar MLA Naresh Balyan who was arrested in an alleged organised crime case.
He was arrested on December 4. Two other accused in the case are Sachin Chikara and Rohit alias Anna.
Delhi HC hearing over tabling of CAG reports
The Delhi High Court will be hearing a response of AAP government and the lieutenant governor on a plea by BJP functionaries seeking a sitting of the legislative assembly for tabling the CAG reports.
The plea sought a direction to the speaker to perform his constitutional obligation and summon a special sitting of the assembly and table the CAG reports relating to the functioning of the Delhi administration.
ETA scheme starts in UK for non-Europeans
Non-Europeans willing to enter the UK will need to apply for the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme starting today.
It is a pre-entry requirement for nationals of countries who do not require a visa before coming to the UK to visit, transit, or to work in the country for up to three months under the Creative Worker visa concession.
Oscar voting to determine nominees today
Oscar voting to determine the nominees in all 23 categories for the 97th Academy Awards begins on Wednesday, and will conclude on Sunday, January 12.
The nominations will be announced on Friday, January 17.
Screen Actors Guild awards nominations announcements
The SAG Awards nominations will be announced today at 10.30 am ET (9 pm IST).
The announcement will be streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel and will begin with the Best Stunt Ensemble nominations by SAG Awards Committee members Jason George and Elizabeth McLaughlin.
