Air Marshal AP Singh to take charge as new Chief of Air Staff
Air Marshal AP Singh will take charge of the Indian Air Force as the next Chief of the Air Staff today. Earlier, he served as the Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
“The Government has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh presently serving as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, as the next Chief of the Air Staff, in the rank of Air Chief Marshal, with effect from the afternoon of September 30, 2024,” a defence ministry statement said on Saturday.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College and National Defence College, Air Marshal Singh was commissioned into the Fighter Stream of the IAF on December 21, 1984. He is a qualified flying instructor and an experimental test pilot with more than 5000 hours of flying experience on a variety of fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
Top court to hear charges against Ryan Wesley Routh in Trump shooting case
The Supreme Court of the Unites States is set to hear charges imposed on Ryan Wesley Routh, the suspect in an attempted assassination of former US president Donald Trump. This comes days after US prosecutors have charged routh the attempted assassination of the presidential candidate.
Earlier, the court found that Routh had written a note months ago saying he intended to kill Trump. Routh, 58, already faces up to 20 years behind bars on two gun-related charges.
“Violence targeting public officials endangers everything our country stands for," US Attorney General Merrick Garland said BBC reported.
Allahabad HC to hear Krishna Janmabhumi-Shahi Idgah dispute
The Allahabad High Court is set to hear the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute today. Earlier, the Hindu side had moved an application for amendment in its petition, following which the next hearing was fixed.
As per new agency PTI, Justice Mayank Kumar Jain is hearing 18 suits which are consolidated. On August 1, the high court rejected the plea challenging the maintainability of 18 cases related to the temple-mosque dispute in Mathura, and ruled that the “religious character” of Shahi Idgah needs to be determined.

The controversy is related to Mughal emperor Aurangazeb-era Shahi Idgah mosque at Mathura, which is alleged to have been built after demolishing a temple at the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
SC set to hear Maneka Gandhi’s plea against SP candidate’s election
The Supreme Court (SC) will hear Union Minister Maneka Gandhi’s plea challenging Samajwadi Party’s Ram Bhual Nishad’s election from the Sultanpur Lok Sabha.
Gandhi lost to Nishad by a margin of 43,174 votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan gave senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Gandhi, time to file a detailed submission analysing the provision of limitation in other special statutes.
In her appeal, Gandhi challenged the August 14 order of the Allahabad High Court dismissing her election petition challenging the election of Nishad for being time-barred.
Allahabad HC to resume hearing in Ayodhya rape case
The Allahabad High Court will also hear the alleged gang-rape of a 12-year-old girl in Ayodhya. According to recent developments, the family had agreed to abort the foetus that was 12 weeks old.
Police arrested 62-year-old Samajwadi Party leader Moid Khan, the main accused and the bakery owner along with a 22-year-old employee on July 30 in connection with the case.
On July 29, a rape case was registered against the bakery owner and his employee for allegedly raping a teenage girl and filming the act. The incident came to light when the girl, who used to help out at the bakery, was taken to a hospital after she complained of stomach pain. Doctors confirmed she was pregnant.
