Kim Jong Un to arrive in Beijing for military parade

North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, will arrive in Beijing today ahead of his appearance at China’s Victory Day military parade on September 3. This visit is his first foray outside North Korea in six years.

In Tiananmen Square, Kim will stand alongside President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II. The tightly choreographed seating underscores China’s message of solidarity among viewing “anti-Western” global powers.

Kim’s attendance at this multilateral event represents a notable shift in Pyongyang’s diplomatic posture and underscores growing integration into Beijing’s global strategic tableau.

Hearing in Trump’s attempted firing of Fed governor Lisa Cook

The US Supreme Court is set to hear the case pertaining to Cook v Trump in Washington, DC, today. The case challenges President Donald Trump’s attempt to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. Cook, a Biden appointee, filed suit after being fired on August 25, with the White House citing alleged mortgage fraud. She contends this does not legally qualify as “cause” under the Federal Reserve Act.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the signing of Japan’s surrender, marking an end to World War II. The event, located at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, is expected to draw military veterans, dignitaries, and government officials from the US and its allied nations.

The ceremony will feature a moment of silence, a formal reading of the surrender terms, and a tribute to the millions of lives lost during the conflict. In Washington, DC, a wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled at the National WWII Memorial, a poignant tribute to the service members who fought and sacrificed.
