It is set to be a busy Friday with several events lined up for the day.

Firstly Japan is set to the foreign ministers of China and South Korea for a trilateral meeting in Tokyo today (March 21). Meanwhile, UNSC is set to hold a meeting to discuss war in Gaza.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will be sworn in as the new president of Namibia today coinciding with the country’s 35th Independence Day. Meanwhile, the RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Partinidhi Sabha will begin a three-day annual meeting in Bengaluru.

Japan-China-South Korea trilateral meeting

The foreign ministers of South Korea, Japan and China will hold a meeting in Tokyo today in the first such talks since 2023, the governments of the three East Asian nations said on Tuesday (March 18).

The talks occur as South Korea and Japan, US allies, face domestic policy and geopolitical uncertainties amid US-China rivalry. South Korea said its Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and his Japanese and Chinese counterparts, Takeshi Iwaya and Wang Yi, will discuss cooperation and exchange opinions on topics including the regional and international situation, reported news agency Reuters.

UNSC meet to discuss Gaza crisis

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC)is scheduled to meet on March 21 to discuss the ongoing crisis in Gaza. The session will focus on the escalating humanitarian situation, ceasefire efforts and the protection of civilians amid continued hostilities.

Member states are expected to deliberate on potential resolutions aimed at addressing the conflict and facilitating urgent aid delivery to affected areas. This meeting follows increased international calls for diplomatic intervention and a sustainable solution to the violence impacting Gaza and the wider region.

Namibia president-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to be sworn in

Namibia’s president-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is set to be sworn in today. This marks a historic moment as she becomes the country’s first female president. Notably, the inauguration will coincide with Namibia’s Independence Day celebrations, adding significance to the occasion.

In November, the 72-year-old leader secured victory in the presidential election with 57.31 per cent of the vote, surpassing the required 50 per cent to avoid a runoff. She is Namibia’s incumbent vice president and a candidate of the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO).

RSS’ All India Pratinidhi Sabha to hold a three-day meeting in Bengaluru

The the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), the highest decision-making body of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), will hold a three-day meeting in Bengaluru beginning from today.

The meeting is significant this time as it aligns with preparations for the RSS’s centenary celebrations this year, marking 100 years since its founding in 1925. The event is expected to draw around 1,500 delegates, including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale and representatives from 40 RSS-affiliated organisations.

The agenda includes reviewing last year’s activities such as expanding branches from 62,000 to 68,651 and planning initiatives like “Panch Parivartan” (five transformations) focusing on social harmony, family values, environmental care, self-reliance and civic duty.

Mamata Banerjee to visit London

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to embark on a visit to London on March 21. She will speak at the University of Oxford’s Kellogg College a few days later.

According to state administration sources, she is scheduled to deliver a lecture at Oxford University on March 27, discussing the social welfare initiatives she has undertaken during her tenure in West Bengal.

According to the Indian Express, a senior official of state administration said, “Mamata Banerjee has accepted the invitation and is likely to deliver a speech on social welfare schemes at Oxford University. After that, she may hold a business conclave in London as well.”
