It’s an exciting Friday.

The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 commences today in Chennai, with the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru competing against each other.

The Supreme Court will hear BRS leader K Kavitha’s plea challenging her arrest by ED in a money laundering case relating to the Delhi liquor scam.

The IPL 2024 season commences today

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 begins today, 22 March, with a glittering opening ceremony at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

In the opening ceremony at 6:30 PM IST, iconic music composer AR Rahman will captivate the cricket fans with his amazing compositions, and singer Sonu Nigam, actors Tiger Shroff, and Akshay Kumar will join him.

Following this, a marquee encounter will take place between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

SC to hear K Kavitha’s plea

The Supreme Court will hear Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha’s plea challenging her arrest in a money laundering case relating to Delhi excise policy irregularities.

On Tuesday, the daughter of former Telangana chief minister KCR withdrew her plea from the apex court challenging summons by Enforcement Directorate and filed a fresh writ challenging her arrest.

She was arrested by the agency on 15 March from her Hyderabad residence and was taken to the National Capital.

JNUSU elections

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is holding presidential elections for the university’s Student’s Union.

While the United Left Alliance — a coalition of all left-aligned student outfits — has fielded Dhananjay, a Dalit PhD student from Bihar as its presidential candidate, the RSS-aligned Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has selected Umesh Chandra Ajmeera, who hails from a Scheduled Tribe in Telangana, for the post, as per The Hindu.

The eight candidates fighting for the four central panel posts earlier spoke in the debate on national affairs, such as the farmers’ protest and electoral bonds, and campus issues, including hostel infrastructure and “caste discrimination."

The student body polls had been delayed for four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic-induced lockdown and, later, the process of PhD admissions.

SAD core committee meeting

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will be holding its core committee meeting in Chandigarh with a primary focus on the strategies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The election strategy of the Parliamentary elections will be finalised.

CAT to decide on bureaucrat’s plea seeking empanelment docs

Unhappy over the conduct of the Centre’s counsel while hearing a bureaucrat’s plea seeking documents related to his empanelment, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has said the case will be decided on Friday ex-parte in case the respondents advocates fail to appear before it, according to an official order.

The case pertains to a plea filed by Sanjiv Chaturvedi, a 2002 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer of the Uttarakhand cadre, in December 2022.
