It’s going to be a big day for India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s first underwater river metro tunnel in Kolkata today and the Indian Navy will commission the naval detachment in Minicoy as INS Jatayu.

Farmers will resume their march to Delhi to press the Centre over their various demands.

On the global front, the UK’s finance minister, Jeremy Hunt, will present a spring budget in Parliament.

PM Modi to inaugurate first underwater metro tunnel in Kolkata

The Indian leader is set to inaugurate India’s first under-river metro tunnel built in Kolkata today.

The Kolkata Metro extension, featuring the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Metro section, includes the first transportation tunnel in India to pass under a major river, representing a critical milestone in the country’s infrastructure development.

In addition to the underwater metro, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section and the Taratala – Majerhat Metro section, which is part of the Joka-Esplanade line.

He is also likely to address a women’s rally in the North 24 Parganas district, where restive Sandeshkhali is located.

Indian Navy to commission naval detachment Minicoy as INS Jatayu

The Indian Navy will commission the naval detachment in Minicoy as INS Jatayu in the presence of Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, on Wednesday.

The Indian Navy is all set to commission a new base, INS Jatayu in the Minicoy Islands of Lakshadweep. ANI

The event marks an important milestone in the Navy’s resolve to incrementally augment security infrastructure at the strategically important Lakshadweep Islands.

For those unversed, Naval Detachment Minicoy was set up in the early 1980s under the operational command of Naval Officer-in-Charge (Lakshadweep).

Farmers to march to Delhi

Farmers will resume their march to the National Capital today to press the Centre over their various demands, including a minimum support price (MSP) for crops and farm loan waiver.

The development comes after the fourth round of talks which took place over a week ago in Chandigarh was inconclusive.

Earlier, Union Minister Arjun Munda had said that the government does not have an immediate plan to resume talks with protesting farmers, but it will find a solution soon.

Notably, the farmers had paused their march till 29 February, but continued staying along the Punjab-Haryana border.

Rajnath Singh to commission newly inducted MH 60R

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will commission the newly inducted MH 60R Seahawk multi-role helicopter at the INS Garuda in Kochi today.

The squadron will be commissioned in the Indian Navy as INAS 334, under the Command of Captain M Abhisheik Ram.

The Indian government signed a deal with the United States in February 2020, to acquire 24 fourth-generation MH 60R helicopters. Six of them have been delivered to the Indian Navy so far.

The induction of these helicopters into the Indian Navy will bring about a significant surge in its maritime prowess and capabilities.

UK’s Jeremy Hunt presents budget to Parliament
